What is Nitrous Oxide Sedation?
Nitrous oxide sedation is a popular and effective method used to help patients feel relaxed and at ease during dental procedures. Often referred to as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is a colorless, odorless gas that, when inhaled, induces a state of calm and reduces anxiety. Here’s how it works:
- Inhalation: Nitrous oxide is administered through a small mask placed over your nose. You will inhale the gas, which quickly takes effect and helps you feel relaxed.
- Sedation Level: The level of sedation can be adjusted throughout the procedure to ensure you remain comfortable. You will stay awake and alert, but you may feel a sense of euphoria and detachment from
the procedure.
- Recovery: Once the mask is removed, the effects of nitrous oxide wear off rapidly, allowing you to resume your normal activities almost immediately after the procedure.
